Ballet Experience
A private one-hour class with a NYCB dancer
In this once-in-a-lifetime experience, young dance students, ages 14 and older with prior ballet experience, have the opportunity to take a thrilling, private, hour-long class taught by a NYCB dancer. There’s no better way to learn ballet than from the professionals themselves!

Where:
Classes held at NYCB studios, Samuel B. & David Rose Building 70 W. 65th St. (corner of W. 65th St. & Amsterdam Ave.). Changing rooms available
When:
Ballet Experience is offered Tuesday through Saturday while the Company is in season at the New York State Theater (January 6 - March 1, 2009; April 29- June 20, 2009). Groups should arrive at 9:30 am on the day of their reservation to dress and warm-up for class, which is from 10 am to 11 am. Class sizes are restricted to a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 students. Reservations must be made in advance and are subject to availability.
Cost:
$30 per student in addition to cost of performance ticket. Group members not participating may observe class at no additional cost.

Students must have prior ballet experience. Class minimum of 10 students. Maximum. of 25 students.

Meet the Dancer
Experience ballet from the other side of the footlights when you Meet the Dancer. A NYCB dancer will escort your group, sharing insights into the life of a dancer and answering questions about the performance your group is attending. He or she will also share interesting moments from the history of both NYCB and our home, the New York State Theater. You’ll also have a breathtaking opportunity to view the auditorium from onstage.

When:
Meet the Dancer is offered Tuesday through Sunday during the Company’s repertory seasons at the New York State Theater (January 6 - March 1, 2009; April 29- June 21, 2009). This pre-performance program is approximately 45 minutes in length and begins promptly 90 minutes prior to the performance’s curtain time.
Cost:
$7 per participant, in addition to the cost of performance ticket.

See the music and hear the dance from a musician’s perspective when you Meet the Musician. Join a member of the NYCB Orchestra before the performance for a discussion of music’s integral contribution to the beauty of a ballet performance. Then, enjoy a first row view of the orchestra pit and the splendor of the New York State Theater.

Behind-the-scenes glimpse into NYCB’s Costume Shop
Take an exciting look at some of New York City Ballet’s exquisite and intricately-detailed costumes and how they’re made. NYCB Costume Shop Director Marc Happel will guide you on a tour of various locations where costumes are stored and readied for use in actual performances, while sharing insights on costume design, creation, and maintenance.
When:
Offered Tuesday through Friday, January 6 - February 26, 2009 and April 29- June 19, 2009; appropriate for ages 10 and older. Scheduling is flexible for this pre-performance program.

Cost:
$10 per person, in addition to cost of performance ticket.
